Roy-Lamar-Swindoll

Roy Lamar Swindoll, age 88, of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

Lamar was born on October 4, 1935 in Tupelo, MS and was the son of the late, Presley and Lola Duncan Swindoll.

He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters and 4 brothers.

Lamar was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Juliet. He spent his career as a salesman and instructor in the welding industry, retiring from Nasco 25 years ago. Lamar enjoyed people. He and his wife, Virginia, met some of their dearest friends at church, through work, and while square dancing.

After retirement, they and their friends purchased RVs and traveled across the states strengthening their bonds of friendship. Lamar also took great pleasure in music and in writing and reciting poetry. Seldom could he be found without a harmonica in his pocket. He used these passions and along with his close friends, spent many years entertaining and ministering to residents at local nursing homes.

Before having their first child, he and Virginia adopted Virginia’s six younger siblings after their parents were tragically killed in a car accident. He loved them as his own because Lamar loved his family. He taught his children and grandchildren the importance of working hard, enjoying simple pleasures like woodworking, gardening, and passing on the art of making others smile.

He is survived by:
Wife of 67 years – Virginia Miller Swindoll
Children – Phil (Dianne) Swindoll, David Swindoll and Carla Conte
Brother – Harold Swindoll
Grandchildren – Logan Swindoll, Matthew (Hailey) Swindoll, Brennan (Ellie) Swindoll and McClayne (Gregory) Elliott
