John Francis ‘Big John’ Hamilton Sr., age 73, of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023.

John was born in Nashville, TN and was the son of the late, Joe P. Hamilton, Jr. and Judy A. Samuelson Hamilton.

He was an awesome husband, father, son, brother, Pop, uncle, great-uncle, son-in-law and best friend. John was a graduate of Stratford High School and Vanderbilt University. He was a professional mechanical engineer and owner/president of Hamilton Machine Company, Inc. John was a Boy Scout leader for many years.

He was a musician and loved music and also loved traveling and being on the lake, especially Center Hill Lake. John loved nature and enjoyed sitting in the front porch swing watching God’s creation. From that front porch swing, he watched deer, skunks, coyotes, turkeys, fox, birds, hawks, squirrels and groundhogs.

He designed and had the house built fully handicapped accessible for the in-laws so his wife, Lisa could take care of her mom and dad. John had an amazing warped sense of humor. He was a story teller and could make you believe anything.

He was preceded in death by his son, Keith Hamilton; sister, Diane Hamilton and mother-in-law, Louise Smith.

He is survived by:

Son – John (Christy) Hamilton, Jr.
Daughter – Sherri Hamilton (Michael Balstad) Young
Brother – Joe P. (Maggie Rose) Hamilton, III
Sister – Sandra A. (Tony) VanAtta
Grandchildren – Camryn and Evan Young, John, III, ”Trey” and Jacob Hamilton and Wyatt and Grant Hamilton
Special niece – Lindsay (Andrew) Bryant
Special great-nephew – David Bryant

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Providence United Methodist Church, 2293 S. Rutland Road, Mt. Juliet, TN with Pastor Jacob Armstrong and Pastor Mark Youngman officiating. Active pallbearers will be Trey Hamilton, Jacob Hamilton, Wyatt Hamilton, Grant Hamilton, Evan Young, Keith Fly, Stephen Hamilton, Mike Borchardt, Tant Dowell and Gary Barrington. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Hamilton Machine Company, Inc.

The service will be livestreamed at http://live.prov.church

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. – 12 noon Saturday at the church.
