Sidney (Sid) Stephen Hawks III was born on November 3, 1941 in Wichita, Kansas to Sidney and Billie Hawks.
He is preceded in death by parents (Sidney & Billie Hawks), brother (Kirby Hawks), son (Steve Hawks), son-in-law (Ronnie Dillard), and brother-in-law (Bill Stull).
Sid graduated from Hutchinson High in 1959. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served as a pilot until honorably discharged in 1963. He met the love of his life, Jane Hawks, and married in August of 1963. They have celebrated almost 59 years of marriage. He loved his family, friends, and community.
In 1956 he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and led many young men in Boy Scouts of America Troop 30 of Donelson, TN. Two of his accomplishments in Boy Scouts were leading his son, Joshua Hawks, and grandson, John Bradley Dillard, to the rank of Eagle Scout.
Sid founded U-Stor-It of Mt. Juliet in 1984. We know Sid is dancing on the streets of heaven just like he did with his granddaughter (Jessica Biggs) at her wedding and through the streets of Disneyland with his daughter (Joani Trout).
One of Sid’s biggest joys was following Mickey Mantle’s baseball career and collecting his many baseball cards over the years. Sid was a generous man with his time and resources.
He will be missed by his church family of Victory Baptist Church, friends, and surviving family: wife (Jane Hawks), daughter Joani (Darrell) Trout, son Joshua (Kaitlin) Hawks, brother Terry (Collette) Hawks, and his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Sid was called home after a full life on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at the age of 80.
We are celebrating his life with friends and family on Sunday, June 19, 2022. Visitation is from 12:00 pm -3:00 pm with service to follow at Sellars Funeral Home (2229 N. Mt Juliet Road Mt. Juliet, TN 37122). Interment will follow the service at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens (654 W. Division Street Mt. Juliet, TN 37122).
