Dr. George Robertson, age 83 of Lebanon, passed away Sunday, March 2nd.

He is preceded in death by his parents, J. W. “Buster” and Beatrice Holland Parker Robertson and sister, Rosalind Robertson Ashworth.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda Robertson; children, Kathy (Billy) Weeks, Beth (Scott) Wecht, Dr. Bill (Michelle) Robertson; grandchildren, Zachary (Alex) Warmath, Kerry (Sara) Wecht, Andrew (Katie) Wecht, Jessica Wecht, Rebecca (Luke) Lefevre, William (Meagan) Robertson, James Robertson and Noah Robertson; great grandchildren, Evelyn Lefevre, Camden Wecht, Aidan Warmath, Elliott Wecht and Celia Wecht; brother, Dr. James (Jane) Buford Robertson; niece Beth (John) Eibl; and Ona Sue Burse Hall, mother to his children.

Dr. George Robertson, known by many simply as “Doctor George,” grew up in Maury City, TN, helping out in his family’s general store and playing basketball for Crockett County High School. Following high school, he attended Lambuth College in Jackson, TN, where he joined the ROTC. While earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from UT Memphis, George also became a young father. Post doctorate, George completed his internship in Macon, GA, and his residency at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. From there, George entered the United States Air Force as a commissioned officer, working as a general surgeon, stationed at Webb Air Force Base in Big Spring, Texas. Doctor George was promoted to Major before completing his service in 1974. He moved back to Tennessee and settled in Lebanon, where he’s been a lifetime member of College Hills Church of Christ. Combining his deep faith and heart for service, Doctor George traveled worldwide, including many countries in Africa, South and Central America, providing medical care and performing surgeries during more than seventy mission trips. In 2024, he retired after 50 years in practice.

Throughout his life, Dr. George Robertson was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and nature enthusiast, who enjoyed sharing his desire to learn and discover new things with his children, grandchildren, and many friends. Always adventurous, George was a certified scuba diver and eventually earned his pilot’s license in 1996. He enjoyed hiking, golfing, biking, pick up games of basketball, and really any sport that let him show off his athletic prowess.

In celebration of his life, please join the family on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at the College Hills Church of Christ in Lebanon. Starting at 2:00pm, come to the auditorium to sing some of his favorite hymns, and from 2:30-5:00pm enjoy refreshments and share memories in the fellowship hall among friends and family. Come and go as you like.

A private family burial will take place at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Nature Conservancy or the Southeastern Grasslands Institute.
