Charles Randall Carter Sr. Obit

Charlie Carter of Bethpage, Tennessee, left this life on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, in Gallatin, Tennessee.

Charles Randall Carter Sr. was born on August 25, 1949, in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Charles Wesley Carter and the late Lillian “Babe” Ruth Carter. He married his wife, Brenda, on November 12, 1971.

Charlie was known for his work ethic and outspoken wit. He could always be counted on for a good one-liner in the right or wrong situation. Most importantly, he was known as a man of integrity, passionate about making sure everyone was treated fairly, regardless of their situation. Charlie’s life embodied these qualities.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda, and their three children: son Randall Carter of Gallatin, and two daughters, Catherine Carter Cornwell (Joe) of Scottsville, Kentucky, and Leslie Carter Maynard (Brandon) of Bethpage. Charlie is also survived by his Grandchildren, Aubrianna Maynard, Carter Maynard, and Andrew Maynard, all of Bethpage. He has two siblings, Judy Carter Roberson of Cookeville, Tennessee, and Joseph W. Carter of Bethpage, Tennessee. They survive him as well. He also leaves behind many loved family and friends.

Charlie was almost always found working around the Carter family farm, where he loved running many types of equipment and working and playing alongside his kids and grandkids. Those who knew Charlie know that he wasn’t immune to the occasional equipment malfunction or mishap, but they always ended up in a great story and memory for family and friends.

He graduated from Gallatin High School and attended the University of Tennessee. He worked as Head of Maintenance at Christian Towers and spent nearly all his life in agriculture. Charlie was a member of Bethpage Methodist Church.

When he wasn’t running equipment on the farm, Charlie loved cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers and Tennessee Titans. As an original Titans season ticket holder, Charlie attended the Music City Miracle and other notable Titans victories. Charlie would likely add that there weren’t many other notable Titans victories.

He completed his journey the way he lived. By providing for and protecting his family and advocating for medical care for Mrs. Brenda. All who know him well will echo the same sentiment: Charlie was a man of integrity.

The Carter family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, at Family Heritage Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Mike Potts officiating. Interment will follow at Bethpage Lower Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel Sanders, Daniel Farrell, Chris Thurman, Michael Hill, Neal Grey, and Tate Sloan. Honorary Pall Bearers are William “Bucky” May, Richard “Dickie” Reese, and Johnny Parker.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
