A concerned citizen and a coordinated response from Mt. Juliet’s public safety agencies helped safely assist a person experiencing an emotional crisis Monday morning on the South Mt. Juliet Road overpass at Interstate 40.
According to the Mt. Juliet Police Department, a citizen called the city’s Advanced Response Communications Center (ARCC) after noticing concerning behavior on the overpass.
An ARCC operator used the city’s live public safety cameras to locate the individual, monitor the situation, and direct emergency responders to the exact location.
Mt. Juliet firefighters, who were returning to their station, arrived first and began talking with the individual, helping de-escalate the situation until police officers arrived.
The department’s Mental Health Co-Responder also responded and provided crisis support before the individual was safely transported to mental health professionals for further care.
Police credited the successful outcome to the observant citizen who called for help and the coordinated efforts of ARCC operators, firefighters, police officers, and the department’s Mental Health Co-Responder.
