The Wilson County Warming Center will open Friday, January 23, at 5 p.m. at the Wilson County Fairgrounds as winter weather moves into the area.
Emergency officials say the center will remain open as long as conditions warrant, with hours dependent on temperatures and snowfall totals. Those planning to use the shelter are asked not to arrive before 5 p.m. to allow staff and volunteers time to prepare the facility.
The warming center will provide a heated, safe place and meals for individuals experiencing homelessness or anyone without a safe place to stay. Officials are encouraging people in need to arrive Friday evening, noting that travel conditions could become hazardous and emergency response may be delayed once the storm moves in.
Residents are encouraged to share the information to help reach anyone who may need shelter during the storm.
