Mt. Juliet, Tenn. – A traffic stop for an altered temporary registration tag led to the discovery of a large amount of cash, which was stolen moments before during a vehicle burglary. On Thursday, October 13, 2022, around 2:30 p.m., a Mt. Juliet Police officer noticed a black BMW SUV with an altered temporary registration tag leaving the Tuscan Gardens neighborhood. The officer stopped the SUV, and a search revealed multiple other improper registration tags, a window punch, drug paraphernalia, and a large amount of cash.
While the traffic stop investigation was ongoing, officers were summoned to the 5100 block of Giardino Drive in Tuscan Gardens for a vehicle burglary report. The victim had nearly $7,000 in cash stolen from his unlocked truck while conducting landscaping work on a nearby home. The victim just withdrew the money from a Nashville bank and then drove to Mt. Juliet. Nearby home surveillance revealed that the individuals on the traffic stop were the suspects in the vehicle burglary.

Further investigation revealed that the theft suspects followed the victim into Mt. Juliet to the work site. When the victim was away from the truck, the suspects took the opportunity to steal the cash. Detectives are working to confirm if the suspects followed the victim all the way from the Nashville bank location, and items in the suspect’s vehicle led detectives to believe they had been traveling across the region.
