August 22, 2024 – Watertown High School, Watertown Middle School and Watertown Elementary are on a “Soft Lockdown.” However, there are no active on-campus threats happening at these schools, reports Wilson County Schools.

On Thursday morning, around 9 a.m., a threat was reported through a 988 chatline, leading to a heavy law enforcement presence in the Watertown area, including school entrances being blocked.

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Department are currently investigating this as a potential ‘swatting’ incident.

At this time, there is no active threat; all school grounds have been thoroughly searched.

“At this time, there is no active on-campus threats to any of our Watertown schools, but district leadership and support staff are on-site with law enforcement receiving updates,” Wilson County Schools stated Thursday.

Deputies will provide updates as more information becomes available.

A similar situation has been reported in another area of the midstate.
