A missing service dog was safely reunited with his owner Tuesday evening after a search that began earlier in the day in Mt. Juliet and stretched into a neighboring community.

The Mt. Juliet Police Department said the dog, Zen, disappeared from a vehicle while his owner, Kevin, was having a tire repaired at a business in the Providence area. Because Zen is a service animal and provides essential daily support, officers treated the situation as a priority.

Police and Animal Control began searching soon after the report was made, and the department shared an alert on social media to widen the search. Although Kevin had plans to travel, he chose to stay nearby and booked a hotel so he could return quickly if Zen was located.

Later in the day, the department’s communications center received a call from someone in Hermitage who reported having Zen. An Mt. Juliet police officer responded, confirmed the dog’s identity, and transported him back to his owner.

Zen was reunited with Kevin Tuesday evening, bringing the search to a happy conclusion. Police thanked community members who shared information and helped spread the word to bring the service dog home.
