The S.H.I.E.L.D. Award (School Heroes in Education, Leadership, and Defense) was created this year by the SRO Sergeants to recognize deputies who go above and beyond the call of duty.
SRO Allen Carver, who serves as one of the SROs at Rutland Elementary, was honored as the first-ever recipient of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Award after being selected from four nominated deputies.
SRO Carver is deeply committed to his students and community. He supervises the D.A.R.E. program and also serves as a certified ALERRT Trainer and Tactical Medical Instructor, and continues the Buddy Bench Program started by the late Teresa Fuller—recently partnering with Whataburger to fund new benches at local elementary schools.
During the award presentation, SRO Carver was also busy teaching his 3rd graders about School Bus Safety Week—a perfect example of his dedication to both safety and education.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. Award will be presented quarterly, with one overall winner recognized at the end of the year as SRO of the Year.
The award plaque was designed in collaboration with digital media students at Mt. Juliet High School and their teacher, a longtime supporter of the SRO Division.
