It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Willie Edgar Sloan, Jr on January 24th 2025, at the age of 75.

Willie was born on September 22, 1949 in Lebanon, Tn. While our hearts mourn the loss, we take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering. He happily spent his last days watching Trump take office.

Willie met the love of his life and beloved wife, Janice H. Sloan of 25 years. Willie was known for his love and support for his family and always willing to lend a hand. There is nothing that he couldn’t do and was a jack of all trades. He had an incomparable green thumb and a great cattleman as well. He took joy in teaching his grandkids how to work livestock, run a tractor, and to take pride in things that they do.

Willie loved his family deeply and would make a point to tell them that he loved and appreciated them as often as possible. His last words spoken were “I Love You” and may that always be written on our hearts. According to the Bible, the “fruits of the spirit” are: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control; found in Galatians 5:22-23. These 9 traits sum up Willie and may we all yearn to live a life more like him.

Willie retired from the Wilson County Road Commission. After retirement, he spent his time farming and spending time with family.

Preceded in joining the Lord: Mother & Father, Willie E. Sloan, Sr and Birdie Sloan.

Survived by his wife, Janice H. Sloan; daughter Courtney (and Will) Benson; grandchildren Taylor, Dalton, Austin, and Cailee Benson; brother David (and Elena) Sloan and many friends that he considered family.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan.30, 2025 at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown, with Bro. Travis Watkins officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. till service time on Thursday. Interment will follow at Hunter Memorial Park. https://www.hunterfuneral.com
