Pat was a loving husband, caring father, doting grandfather and a beloved leader at Mt. Pat humbly led by example, described by many as “a good man” who followed the teachings of Christ. He was a true scholar of the Bible and its scriptures, and his wisdom and kindness touched the lives of many who sought his guidance and solace.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Roscoe Hackney and Delia Christian Hackney; four brothers and four sisters.

Pat graduated in 1962 from Mt. Juliet High School, where he was salutatorian, and he and his brothers Bob and Ernie played together on the football and basketball teams. He was soon drafted into the Army for two years, and he served part of that time in Vietnam.

After the war, he graduated from Cumberland University and Tennessee Tech University. Then he got his master’s degree in education at Austin Peay University. He spent most of his nearly 40-year career as an educator at Friendship Christian School, where he was a math teacher, football coach and assistant principal before becoming headmaster. After retiring in 2002, he taught for several years at Wilson Central High School.
