Tamara Dawn Thomasson, age 45 of Knoxville passed away February 6, 2026, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
She was born in North Lake, Illinois, on August 26, 1980. She was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. She was a therapist with the Knox County School System. She was preceded in death by baby sister, Tiffiny Thomasson; step dad, Nick Owens; grandparents, LeRoy and Sylvia Virnich and Floyd and Evelyn Thomasson; and uncle, John Virnich.
Tami was kind and fierce and funny and so full of life. She was a crafty queen, hippie, and social justice warrior. To meet her was to like her, to get to know her was to love her. Her passing leaves a hole in so many people’s hearts and lives.
Tami embodied “be the change you want to see in the world”, down to her final, selfless act. With her passing, she became a real life superhero, as she was a registered organ donor, and her tissues will be able to benefit up to 75 people.
She is survived by her mom, Cindy Owens; brother, Matt Thomasson; dad, Steve (Sandy) Thomasson; nephew, Dante Thomasson; nieces, Ella and MJ Thomasson; aunts & uncles: Marcia & Steve, Frank & Deb, Gayle, Susie & John; cousins: Jr. & Kate, Jim & Jen, Kim & Dave, Chris & Amy, Ryan & Mena, Patrick & Ashley, Kellie & John; many second cousins; and many, many friends.
There will be a celebration of her life held at a later date.
