Stanley "Tooter" Burton Obit

Stanley “Tooter” Burton, passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on April 12, 2025, at age 67 after a battle with cancer. The Memorial Service, conducted by Brother Steve Delashmit, is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2025, in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon, TN. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the service at 6 p.m.

Stanley Wayne Burton was born in Lebanon, TN to Stella Bowen Burton and David Milton Burton. He grew up with a love for sports, playing baseball and football through his youth. He was a member of the baseball and football teams for Lebanon High School (Class of 75′). Upon graduation, he served four years in the United States Navy. Following an honorable discharge, he returned to his hometown to begin civilian life. He married Michele Atkins, and they had two children, enjoying 46 years together. He graduated from Nashville State Technical Institute receiving an associate’s degree in electrical engineering. He worked as a project manager for multiple electrical contractors throughout the Greater Nashville area for 30+ years before retiring in 2019. He loved the farm life, managing cows, tending a vegetable garden, and whatever else his heart desired – often building things himself. He enjoyed all sports, but the UT Vols and Cumberland University Baseball were his favorites. Tooter loved his family. He could always be found supporting his children and grandchildren at their school or sporting events. He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Lebanon, TN.

Stanley “Tooter” Burton is survived by his wife, Michele Atkins Burton, children Tara Burton and Matthew (Lauren) Burton, grandchildren Logan Wills, Madelyn Burton, and Charlie Burton, father David Milton Burton, siblings Gary (Shari) Burton and Jena (Mark) Reese, brothers-in-law Rex Atkins, Jr. and Gary Howell, sister-in-law Sherry Burton, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and close friends. He is preceded in death by his mother Stella Burton, in-laws Jane and Rex Atkins, brother Mike Burton, sister Tena Burton Hughes, and sister-in-law Gale Atkins Howell.
