Nona Kay Forbes, age 81 of Mt. Juliet, TN passed away on February 7, 2024.

Kay was born in Duncan, OK and was the daughter of the late, James Henry “Blackie” Forbes and LaVoice Rozzell Forbes.

She was also preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Lester and Goldie Woods Rozzell; paternal grandparents, George and Ruth Parris Forbes and uncle, Wilburn Forbes.

Kay was a retired marketing/administrative manager and business owner, but her real passion was her faith, family, friends, children and youth, photography, music, horses, her Native American heritage, the Tennessee Titans and traveling. She completed her travels by visiting 48 states.

Kay was a proud alumni of Velma-Alma High School in Velma, OK where she was President of the Student Government, Editor of the school newspaper and an All-State award winning speech and drama student. She studied at four different universities and completed numerous courses and certifications. Kay was a published photographer and a certified event planner. As a Red Cross volunteer, she was trained to respond to National Disasters and did so for ten years.

For many years, Kay was a Youth Sunday School Teacher and 4-H Horse Club Leader. In recent years, she found joy in finding, hiring and training successful employees, both for her own company and for loyal clients.

She is survived by:
Daughter – Tracie Cochran (Randy) Jenkins of Lebanon, TN
Brother – Larry (Tricia) Forbes of Purcell, OK
Sisters – Connie Forbes Chappell and Carol Jones Forbes, both of Norman, OK
Foster Brother – Jerry Plumlee of Velma, OK
Grandchildren – Jody (Jenn) Jenkins, Checotah Jenkins (Charles) Allen, and Jacob “Jake” (Loran) Jenkins
Great-grandchildren – Kaden, Shaw, Jalee, Shyann, Colt, Jaiden, Carly, Cutter and Eli
Many nieces and nephews and dear friends in Oklahoma and Tennessee

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Bond Memorial Chapel with Charles Allen officiating. Kay has requested that her cremated remains be returned to Tahlequah, OK. Honorary pallbearers will be dear friends, David Hudgens, Richard Ebert, Paul Rice, Lesa Franklin, Karen Fuller, Linda Dawson, Tammy Jackson Edwards, and Michael Patton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, Nashville, TN or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.
