Mary Frances Lea Baines, age 91 of Lebanon, passed away Monday Nov. 17, 2025 at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital in Lebanon. She was born April 3, 1934 daughter of the late Jessie Herbert Lea and Elizabeth Frances Williams Lea. Her formative years were spent in Watertown where she was a 1951 graduate of Watertown High School.
She was a switchboard operator for South Central Bell Telephone Company and later became the manager and switchboard operator for University Medical Center in Lebanon, retiring in 2016 after 35 years. Mary was a longtime member of the Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she attended and served faithfully.
In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband George Robert Baines on Feb. 27, 2005; son in law, Jerry Snodgrass; brothers, James Melvin, Riley, William Thomas, and Jessie Raymond Lea; sisters, Ella Knowles, Ola Mai Hackney, Pauline Keith, an infant sister Agnes Marie Lea; and step-grandchild, Jeremy Snodgrass.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 25, 2025 at the Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church (522 Castle Heights Ave. Lebanon, TN 37087). Rev. Kevin Medlin will officiate and interment will follow at Wilson County Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be at the Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Monday Nov. 24, 2025 from 3-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 11 a.m. until service time. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jessie and Dylan Snodgrass, Aylan Baines, Cody Sutherland, Palmer and Grafton Baines. Honorary pallbearers, Jenna Baines Sutherland, Sydney, Rylan, Miller, Mattie Lea and Annie Snodgrass, Danielle Snodgrass, Mailee Burroughs, Lennox and Eden Snodgrass; and all her nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary is survived by her children, Jeff (Lisa) Baines, Diane Snodgrass, Robert (Lisa) Baines all of Lebanon; grandchildren, Jessie (Sydney) Snodgrass, Dylan (Danielle) Snodgrass, Jenna Baines (Cody) Sutherland, Aylan, Palmer, and Grafton Baines; great-grandchildren, Rylan, Miller, Mattie Lea and Annie Snodgrass, Mailee Burroughs, Lennox and Eden Snodgrass; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
