With profound sadness yet hearts full of gratitude, we announce the passing of our beloved Mother Margaret (Peggy) Susan Durrough on January 19, 2025. She passed peacefully in her home in Lebanon, Tennessee, surrounded by her family at the age of 73.
She was born the oldest of 8 children on July 15, 1951 in Queenstown, Maryland.. Peggy was a loving sister, and a dedicated teacher whose kindness and wisdom shaped countless lives. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to 7 children, 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Above all, she found her greatest purpose in nurturing her children and guiding them with unyielding love, while celebrating the lives they so beautifully forged.
As a teacher, Peggy touched the hearts of many, both in the classroom and at home. She believed that learning was a lifelong journey and poured her heart into inspiring others to grow and embrace knowledge.
Her children were the center of her world, and she took immense joy in witnessing the lives they built, each milestone, each triumph, and even the challenges they overcame. She cherished every moment, celebrating their successes and offering comfort and wisdom in times of need. Her greatest legacy lives on in their strength, love, and unwavering faith.
She is survived by her children Mary Pamela Hill-Snellgrove (3 children), James (Shay) Hill (5 children) Sarah (Craig) DeLong (3 children), Anna (Kyle) Barrett (4 children), Carol (Drew) Hildebrand (1 child), and Robert (Genna) Durrough (2 children), who will continue to honor her memory by living with the same love and faith she so beautifully embodied.
Though we grieve her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the arms of the Lord, reunited with her beloved son Henry David Durrough and her adoring father Charles Eugene (Gene) Althoff. Henry’s memory continues to live on through his partner, Sheyanne Crank, and their child.
A celebration of her life will be held in the spring in her hometown of Hamilton, Ohio. Family and friends are invited to come together in love and remembrance, sharing in the joy of the time we were blessed to have with her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Community First Solutions in her honor,
“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” — Proverbs 31:26
