OBITUARY: Lawrence Scott (Bob) Sansing


Lawrence Scott (Bob) Sansing, age 86 of Lebanon passed away on April 7, 2024, at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital.

Born February 13, 1938, in Greenville, Mississippi. He is the son of the late William Barnes Sansing and Ethel Gaffney Sansing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Tom, Jim, John “Bud”, and David Sansing; sisters, Janie Buchanan, Mary Louise “Pook” Jennings, and Laura Mae “Lollie” Lundy; and niece, Debby Casler.

He leaves behind his wife of over sixty-five years, Faye East Sansing; daughters, Cheryl (Terry) Payne of Asheville, NC, and Leslie (Kurt) Zellner of Lebanon; grandchildren, Zachary Payne, Bailee Zellner and Luke Zellner; His sister Margaret Waits of Lafayette, Louisiana and his sister-in-law Elizabeth Sansing of Oxford, Mississippi along with 19 nieces and nephews.

He married his high school sweetheart Faye East in 1958. His love of airplanes inspired him to join the United States Air Force. He proudly served from 1958-1962. He then began a 38-year career in the airline industry. His career came with many airline mergers. He began with Southern Airlines which later became Republic Airlines and then Northwest Airlines. After retiring in from Northwest Airlines, he then worked for the Knoxville Airport Authority from 2000-2004, and last for Manheim Auto Auction.

After many transfers across the United States throughout his career, he and his wife Faye settled in Lebanon, Tennessee in the fall of 2004. During his life, he served in ten churches, last being at First Baptist Church in Lebanon where served as a deacon for many years.

He enjoyed playing golf for several years in the Wednesday afternoon men’s group at Hunters Point. His sense of humor and his love of family is something he will always be remembered for. He was a very proud Papa and never missed a chance to talk about his grandkids.

Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home with Pastor David Freeman officiating. Visitation Friday 4-6 PM and Saturday 10 -11 AM at Ligon & Bobo. Interment with military honors will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Centennial Adult Day Care for their years of loving care, Anna our home caregiver, and the doctors and nurses at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital and Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate loving care during the final week of his life.
