Lavonne Callaway Greene, 83, passed away on September 29, 2024.
Lavonne led a very active lifestyle. In her social community, she was known as a fierce competitor (some might even say a “card shark”) and she taught countless friends how to play Canasta, Super Samba, and Chickenfoot Dominoes. She hosted many of these events at her home and her legacy will continue with the numerous friends and families now playing these same games.
In addition, Lavonne also hosted many large Christmas parties for family and friends at her Mount Juliet home over the years. She inspired many people to stay active, regardless of age, when she attended consistent Zumba exercise classes. She was a graceful dancer and met many new friends in her country western and square-dancing classes. In addition, she enjoyed attending church services, spending time with family, watching basketball games and movies, traveling to the beach, gardening, and spending time with her two cats, Angel and Pepper.
Lavonne spent her early years growing up in West Palm Beach, Florida, where she attended Palm Beach Lakes High School. She worked for decades as a Registered Nurse in the operating room. After retiring from Veterans Hospital, she continued working for many years at Southern Hills operating room as well as Northridge Surgery Center. More recently she was known as a great local resource to help friends with basic healthcare needs such as filling medications and providing companionship. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the dedicated and compassionate healthcare professionals at Summit Hospital for their work in recent days.
Lavonne is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Louvenie Callaway; brother Hugh Callaway, brother Gene (Joan) Callaway, sister Shirley (John) Timmons.
She is survived by her son, Brett Hayman, daughter, Charisse (Joey) Carter, granddaughter Hailey Carter, sister-in-law Donzie Callaway, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
