Dvonia Yates, lovingly known as “Sissy” to most, or “Mrs. D.” to her daycare babies, was born unto the union of the late Charles and Margie Davis on Wednesday, December 1st, 1943, in Nashville, Tennessee, and peacefully left this world on Friday, November 1st, 2024 at the age of 80, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Yates was a respected and cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to countless people during her career as a caregiver to her daycare children. Sissy was a longstanding member of both Green Street Church of Christ and then later, Victory Baptist Church. She cherished Jesus, her family, and her dear friends above all else.
Her vibrant spirit, genuine compassion, and spitfire personality will be deeply missed. The legacy of her love and kindness will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her.
She is survived by loving daughter and caretaker, Kathy (Chris) Kinard; sibling, Charles E. “Bubba” Davis, Mary (Doug) Stanley, and Walter E. Davis; grandchildren, Charles Erik Kinard, Karra Kinard, and Trish (Brandon) Smith; great-grandchildren, Payton Kinard, Will Kinard, and Wyatt Smith; niece, Robin Lyn Rice; nephew, Robert Casey (Cara) Stanley; great-niece, Terralyn Rice.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Harold H. Yates; brother, James Robert Davis.
The Funeral Service, conducted by Bro. Tom Tignor, will be held in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Erik Kinard, Chris Drnek, Doug Stanley, Brandon Smith, Caleb Myer, and Doyle Myer serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles “Bubba” Davis, Walter Davis, David Yates, Scott Yates, and Casey Stanley.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 3rd from 01:00 p.m. – 06:00 p.m.; Monday, November 4th from 04:00 p.m. – 08:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, November 5th from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m.
The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Gentiva Hospice, especially these helping hands- Danielle, Gina, Mary Beth, Megan, and Cori.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sissy’s honor to Mt. Juliet’s local animal shelters- True Rescue or Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary.
