Deborah “Debbie” Richards Wood, passed away at the age of 72 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, on Monday, July 22nd.
Debbie is the daughter of Regis and Colletta Richards, while being born in Youngstown, Ohio and raised in Hubbard, Ohio.
After graduating from Ursuline High School in 1969, she attended and graduated from Bowling Green State University with a bachelor’s degree in education and began her career as a teacher at Madison High School in Mansfield, Ohio. In 1979 she married Kevin Wood, formerly of Ashland and remained married to him for 45 years. It was a lifelong love that gave them two sons, Matthew and Benjamin.
Debbie was known as a joyful person that could see the good in any situation, no matter how daunting. When things were tough, she could always be heard saying “there has to be a silver lining”. Her laugh was infectious and she was always willing to laugh at herself to make everyone feel at ease. Her outgoing nature often led to heartfelt talks with strangers as she would talk to anyone who would listen.
Her constant positive outlook served her well as her health deteriorated, continually holding a positive attitude against odds that would topple even the strongest of others. At the end of her fight she was surrounded by her family and knew that she had left the world a better place than when she arrived.
Debbie is preceded in death by her parents, Regis and Colletta Richards of Hubbard, Ohio.
She leaves behind her husband Kevin of Lebanon, TN, children Matthew (Andrea) Wood of Lebanon, TN, Benjamin (Laura) Wood of Aniston, AL, sister Mary Ann (Joe) Souliere and her grandchildren Elsie, Everett and Murphy and a host of nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Those that were lucky enough to have known her will continue to carry forward her spirit with kindness, love and generosity for all. She will be greatly missed.
Services will be held by family at a later date.
