David Edward Davenport, Sr. age 84, formerly of Watertown, passed away Monday morning, Sept. 30, 2024 at Smith Co. Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage.
Born March 17, 1940 in Watertown, he was 1 of 11 children of the late Robert Lee Davenport and Josie Mai Aldridge Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Emily Davenport; a daughter, Davanne Blair; a grandson, David Edward Davenport III; 3 sisters and 6 brothers.
David attended Watertown schools and was a member of Round Like Baptist Church. He was a 30 year employee of the US Corp of Engineers and a farmer.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Allen) Fennell; son, David Edward (Sue) Davenport, Jr.; grandchildren, Dustin Blair, Emily (Robert) Jones, Andrew Tippett, Letitia (Keith) Elkins, Tiffany Bennett, Michael (Jennifer) Fennell, William (Barbara) Fennell, Jonathan (Colby) Davenport, Robert (Brittany Gilbert) Davenport, Jo Beth (John) Taylor; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Reba Patton; many nieces an nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024 at Hunter Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. till service time on Thursday. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Interment will be at Jones Hill Cemetery. https://www.hunterfuneral.com
