Colby Ross Chase – Mt. Juliet, TN
August 27, 2003 – March 1, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Colby Ross Chase announce his passing on Sunday, March 1, 2026, following devastating injuries incurred in a motorcycle accident. He was surrounded by his loving family and a host of long-time friends as he made his way into his Savior’s arms.
A 2021 graduate of Mt. Juliet High School, Colby grew up excelling in most sports, including baseball, basketball, and football, but his love was his role as soccer goalie. While admittedly not so good at the game, he and his buddies loved to play an occasional round of golf. From ball-related sports to wheel-related activities, he spent a lot of days at “Cars & Coffee” events and bike meets. Like his dad, he loved clean, shiny cars. He went on to work with motorcycles and bought his first one. Late-night rides, whether in his car or on his motorcycle, were his means of relaxing. He recently stated that his bike was his biggest joy besides his family.
Colby was deeply loved by his family and his many friends and never hesitated to return and verbalize that love. His love and protective nature were on full display as he patiently helped with his handicapped grandfather, who called him his best buddy. If you were loved by Colby, everyone knew it. It would be difficult to find a more loyal friend. His friendships were to be envied, as evidenced by the outpouring of love immediately following the accident and through the celebration of Colby’s life. His friends’ love for Colby spilled over to his family. Some of these friendships started years ago and just keep growing.
Colby had a very sophisticated diet that consisted of Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell, McDonald’s cheeseburgers with cheese and ketchup, and lots of chewy candy. That could explain why he never had a dental appointment without at least one cavity.
Colby was a hard worker and recently started a job that he loved at Carlex. He was dependable and always ready to take on any task presented to him, giving 100% to the job.
A funny young man who loved his black hoodies and Hot Wheels, Colby had a way of making others laugh. One friend said that he wore his smile like a gold ribbon. He was also a man of many names. Colby “Cheese” was lovingly bestowed on him by his sister many years ago. He would also respond to Colbyman, Colbster, Colbinator, and Tolbs, just to name a few.
Colby was predeceased by his grandparents Ronnie and Lynn Lackey and cousin Aria Chaffin.
Colby is survived by his loving parents Jamie and Tracy Chase; sister Lauren (Nicholas) Dulaney; grandparents Michael and Dianne McDerman, John and Bunny Chase; aunts and uncles Dana (Rodney) Wood, Meghan (Travis) Rogers, Amanda Tucker, John (Dawn) Chase, Steve (Candi) Chase, Scott Chase, Susan (Chad) Parker; cousins Kristin Wood, Katie Wood, Aidan Chaffin, Addison Tucker, Alijah Tucker, Jordan Bull, Tori Giannotti, Jada Chase, Dallas Brewer, Haley Chase, Brianna Chase, Bella Chase, Chase Parker, Taylor Parker, Jackson Parker; and a host of loyal friends.
Colby will be deeply missed by all who loved him and whose lives he touched with his kindness, laughter, and love. As his mom said, “Twenty-two years is not enough.”
Visitation with family and friends will take place on Sunday, March 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Sellars Funeral Home, 2229 N. Mt. Juliet Road, Mt. Juliet, and again on Monday, March 9, from noon to 2 p.m. A Celebration of Life will follow, with Pastor Herb Hardcastle of Cornerstone Nashville officiating. Interment will be at Mt.
