Carl M. Wood Jr., age 91 of Lebanon TN, passed away at home on Sunday, December 14, 2025 after a short illness.
The Funeral Service, conducted by Brother Paul Sain and Brother Mike Reeder, is 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2025 in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN.
Interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery will follow the service.
Pallbearers: Chris Holmes, Justin Gamble, Shawn O’Conner, Daniel Thompson, Logan Thompson, and Phillip Vance.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the service at 2 p.m.
Carl, also known as “Pop”, was born on November 10, 1934 in Humbolt TN to the late Carl M. Wood Sr. and Louise Barksdale Wood.
He graduated from Peabody High School in Trenton TN and continued on to receive his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute, later known as Tennessee Tech in 1956.
Carl was married to Martha Jane Phillips on February 14, 1958. They remained married (miraculously) for 67 years.
Carl worked as a Civil Engineer for the Tennessee Department of Transportation and retired in 1993 after serving as Commissioner TDOT.
After retiring, he served on the City Council for the City of Lebanon.
He enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, golf, tennis and ping pong. He was an active member of Maple Hill Church of Christ and enjoyed frequent outings with the Young at Heart Group. He was an avid UT fan as well.
He is survived by his wife Jane, children Judy (Jody) Vance, Karla (Bubba) Thompson, six grandchildren Emily Vance (Chris) Holmes, Hannah Vance (Justin) Gamble, Olivia (Shawn) O’Conner, Daniel (Amy) Thompson, Logan (Rebecca) Thompson, and Phillip (Emily) Vance, 10 great-grandchildren and one sister Marilyn (Robert) Aldridge and a number of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by a daughter Teri Wood and three sisters Evelyn Lowery, Dorothy Koffman, and Lola Mays.
