The chain of incidents began at a construction zone at mile marker 226, where traffic was reduced to two lanes.
- Shortly after, a three-car injury crash occurred at mile marker 226 and was cleared from the roadway.
- A second crash at mile marker 225 involved a tractor-trailer that caught fire, fully engulfing the vehicle and forcing firefighters to shuttle water to the scene. Officials say the tractor-trailer was full of clothing material.
- A third crash at mile marker 224 involved three vehicles, including one rollover.
Emergency crews from Mt. Juliet Fire, Wilson EMA, and Nashville Fire responded to extinguish the blaze and assist injured motorists.
TDOT and law enforcement redirected traffic off I-40 at the Old Hickory Boulevard exit. Drivers were urged to use alternate routes like Lebanon Road or Central Pike to avoid the backups.
