On October 5, 2022, the Shelbyville Police Department responded to a home on Chestnut Drive in Shelbyville, where officers found Charles Mayes deceased from a gunshot wound. Multiple 9mm shell casings were recovered at the scene, but one of the firearms used in the homicide was not located. SPD continued working diligently to solve the case.
In July 2023, officers from the Lebanon Police Department’s Special Operations Division stopped a white Nissan Altima with a passenger-side headlight out while it was driving through a Lebanon neighborhood.
Officers identified the driver as 25-year-old Christian Parrish of Nashville. During the stop, Parrish told officers he had a firearm next to the driver’s seat.
Officers searched the vehicle and found two pistols, a 9mm Glock 19 and a .40 S&W. The Glock, located next to Parrish’s seat, had markings consistent with gang-related defacement.
He was also found to be in possession of several grams of illegal narcotics.
Parrish was arrested on multiple charges, including drug and weapons offenses, and booked into the Wilson County Jail.
LPD detectives submitted ballistics from both firearms to ATF’s National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN).
Some time later, TBI analysts confirmed that the 9mm Glock 19 recovered from Parrish matched ballistics from one of the shell casings found at the 2022 Shelbyville homicide scene.
In June 2024, the Shelbyville Police Department, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, arrested Parrish for the murder of Charles Mayes.
Earlier this month, an LPD officer assisted the 17th Judicial District Attorney General’s Office by testifying during prosecution. On November 14, 2025, Christian Parrish was formally convicted of the murder of Charles Mayes. Sentencing is scheduled for January 2026.
