According to the sheriff’s office, scammers are telling victims they failed to appear in court and must immediately pay a fine to avoid being arrested.

Officials emphasized that the sheriff’s office will never call to demand payment to avoid arrest and does not collect fines over the phone. Authorities also said legitimate court matters are handled through official written documentation and legal procedures, not threatening phone calls.

The sheriff’s office warned that scammers may “spoof” phone numbers to make it appear calls are coming from law enforcement.

Residents who receive one of these calls are urged to hang up immediately, avoid sharing personal or financial information, and report the incident to the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities are also encouraging the public to share the warning with family members and others in the community, especially elderly residents who are often targeted by scams.
