The district is very excited to announce that Dr. Jennifer Ankney has been named as the new principal of Wilson Central High School.
Director of Schools, Jeff Luttrell officially introduced her as principal to the WCHS staff last Friday during teacher in-service.
Being part of our district over the past ten years in a variety of roles, including a classroom teacher, she has spent the past four years serving as an assistant principal at WCHS. Her experience with the school, and her overall leadership skills, were pivotal when the new principal decision was made.
“Dr. Ankney has so much energy and passion for Wilson Central High School,” says Mr. Luttrell. “When we examined the applicants and had the candidate interviews, you could tell very clearly how much she wanted this opportunity. With Wilson Central always performing at a high level, we knew that she could help take the incredible foundation that’s already in place, and build off that even more to find many more successes.”
Dr. Ankney takes over for former Wilson Central Principal, Travis Mayfield. After serving as principal at WCHS for the past seven years, Mr. Mayfield recently accepted the district’s Deputy Director of Operations position. Dr. Ankney is very appreciative of all that he provided for her while he was there.
“Mr. Mayfield is a friend and a trusted colleague who I have learned to much from,” says Dr. Ankney. “I’m grateful for his leadership and what I was able to learn from him while he was principal. He gave me so many opportunities while I was in my assistant principal role. I’m very excited about this and am looking so forward to our new school year.”
Mr. Mayfield attended her official announcement at Wilson Central and candidly told the staff, “She doesn’t need to try to be me, and I would be terrible at trying to be her. It’s a team approach and the team is in place. She’s got what it takes and she’s going to do great things at this school, I have no doubts.”
When it comes to maintaining a school, Dr. Ankney says that relationships are very important.
“I’m thankful that the time I’ve spent here over the years has produced many great relationships with not only our students and families, but also the community.”
