The City of Mt. Juliet is excited to announce that the Central Pike Interchange with I-40 has been selected as part of the State of Tennessee’s Transportation Modernization Act, as announced by The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Monday morning.

The City of Mt. Juliet offered up $25 million towards the project in an effort to expedite the ultimate completion of the project, an unprecedented monetary commitment for a small city of approximately 40,000 residents.

“Today’s long-awaited news about the new interchange at Central Pike and I-40 from TDOT is a game-changer for Mt. Juliet,” Mayor James Maness said. “It will provide much-needed traffic relief. Thanks to TDOT, the city commission, city staff, and our state delegation for their support. This interchange isn’t just construction; it’s key to a less congested, more connected, and thriving Mt. Juliet. If we can improve traffic here, we can do it anywhere in the city.”

Along with senior leadership, Deputy Governor & TDOT Commissioner Butch Eley shared details of the plan Monday morning.

“This is a very important project for the City of Mt. Juliet and Wilson County to alleviate traffic congestion,” Public Works Director Matt White said. “I give credit to our Mayor and Commissioners for their vision and leadership to invest this large sum of money in an effort to accelerate this very important project.”

  1. Central Pike is still a narrow two-lane road, mostly with no shoulders. What’s the plan to fix that so it can handle traffic from the new interchange?
