Applications Open for Wilson County Sheriff’s Citizens Academy

The upcoming session of Wilson County Sheriff’s Citizens Academy starts on September 17 and applications are now open until September 10 for Class 18.

The purpose of the Sheriff’s Citizens Academy is to foster better communication between citizens and deputies through education and cooperation. A well-informed citizen is more likely to share their experience with the community as the opportunity arises. Everyone benefits from enhancing citizens’ understanding of the role and function of the Sheriff’s Office.

Topics Covered:

– Patrol operations
– Criminal investigations
– Illegal drug awareness
– Situational awareness
– Defensive tactics
– Scam prevention
– Firearms safety
– Special Response Team operations

Eligibility:

– Must live or work in Wilson County
– Must be at least 18 years of age
– Must pass a background check
– No physical requirements

Capacity: Only 25 participants allowed in each academy, so apply soon!

Cost: Absolutely FREE!!!

This is an eight-week course meeting every Tuesday from 6 pm to 9 pm. The academy is designed to give citizens an in-depth look at our agency and the training our officers receive through interactive training. This is not a program to become a sworn officer. Participants who complete the program will receive a Certification of Completion at the Citizens’ Academy Graduation.
