On Sunday, Wilson County Emergency Management Agency was dispatched to assist with an unexpected rescue at an animal sanctuary.

The agency says a 300lb pig had become trapped in a sinkhole about 3.5 feet wide and 4.5 feet deep. WCEMA used 5-gallon buckets to clear away hay, manure, and dirt, gradually gaining access to the pig, named “Holey.”

After some creative use of straps and webbing, Holey was successfully lifted out of the sinkhole.

By the end of the operation, the hole had grown to 6 feet deep, 6 feet long, and 4 feet wide—a testament to hard work and perseverance.

WCEMA says the challenging rescue took about 2.5 hours.
