2023 Wilson County Teacher of the Year Announced

Watertown Middle School’s Joan Oxley has been named the “2023 Wilson County Teacher of the Year!”

Currently teaching 8th grade Social Studies, she has been a teacher in the district for nearly 20 years.

“I certainly didn’t expect to be named for this honor,” says Mrs. Oxley. “I’m the type of person who loves to see others get the recognition they deserve. Being in a room of so many incredible educators, it came as a total surprise to me, but I am truly honored.”

Mrs. Oxley’s big announcement came during the annual Wilson County Teacher of the Year recognition dinner at Cumberland University.

All schools in the county are represented with their respective “Teacher of the Year” nominees from their individual schools. Mrs. Oxley was selected by a panel of judges prior to the event.

“We’re extremely proud of her, and all the other educators from our district who were part of the very special evening. A special thanks goes to Cedarstone Bank and Wilson County Motors for their involvement with this wonderful recognition program over the past several years,” writes the school district.
