Wilson County Sheriff’s Office Warns of Phone Scam Targeting Families of Jail Inmates

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office wants to alert the public to a new scam. The department has received reports of individuals with loved ones currently in jail being contacted by callers who falsely identify themselves as Deputy Belfore and Sgt. Jesse Black with the Pre-Trial Division of the Sheriff’s Office.

These callers are requesting money for ankle monitors and fees to attend classes. This is a scam.

Please be advised:
• The Sheriff’s Office will never request payment over the phone
• The Sheriff’s Office will not ask for money via gift cards, wire transfers, or electronic payment apps
• Do not provide personal or financial information to these callers

If you receive one of these calls, do not send money. Hang up immediately and report the incident to the Sheriff’s Office.
