Wilson County Schools has announced that longtime employee Bill Hoover has been selected as the district’s new Transportation Director. Hoover brings more than two decades of transportation and safety management experience to the role and applied shortly after the position became available last month.

“We interviewed several great candidates, but his strong vision on strategies and improvement plans were impressive,” said Director of Schools Jeff Luttrell. “Plus, his deep understanding of our complex transportation system and what all of that entails, he understands that wholeheartedly. We will fully support him throughout his transition.”

Hoover began his career with WCS as a substitute driver over 20 years ago when his daughter attended the district’s schools. He later became a full-time driver and also worked as a Risk Manager for multiple large insurance companies. For the past two years, he has served as Operations Manager at the WCS Transportation West Park Center in Mt. Juliet.

“I’m excited about this opportunity,” said Hoover. “I see several areas where we can improve and make this a more efficient and reliable system for our parents and students. To me, that starts with enhanced communication, more organization and increased cross-training.”

Hoover will officially assume the Transportation Director role on October 20.

“I’m ready to get to work and make this a great and productive experience for families, students, administrators, our drivers and all fellow WCS Transportation employees,” he said.
