A joint investigation by Wilson County Animal Control and the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office has led to the arrest of 23-year-old Cory Evans, accused of shooting a small black dog found badly injured on Oak Grove Road.
Animal Control officers responded to the call on September 18 and located the dog wearing a blue collar with a severely damaged front right leg. The animal was taken to a veterinarian, where X-rays showed bullet fragments. Officials say the dog had been shot twice — one round grazing its spine and another striking and shattering its front leg at the elbow.
Detectives identified Evans as the suspect and secured an indictment. He was taken into custody on a charge of aggravated animal cruelty.
The dog is continuing to receive veterinary care and is expected to improve despite the extent of its injuries.
