The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of increasing incidents of attempted fraud by means of unknown callers impersonating officers over the phone. These individuals can be very convincing. They are currently contacting citizens and falsely claiming that they have missed jury duty, failed to pay a citation, missed court, or have a family member incarcerated.
Oftentimes these false claims are accompanied by requests for payment through gift cards, bitcoin, or other digital currency or payments. It is important to remember that no one with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office or other law enforcement agency will request such payments.
