During Thursday night’s Board of Education meeting, the Board unanimously approved a resolution that adamantly opposes Governor Bill Lee’s proposed voucher bill named “Education Freedom Scholarship Act.”
According to its website, the Education Freedom Act will establish a statewide school choice program and make additional significant investments in public education, bringing the Lee administration’s anticipated total investment in public education to at least $2.5 billion in 2025.
The video below is from the portion of the meeting where the Board discusses the bill. Board members who spoke to this were very direct on why they oppose this legislation.
A Special Session at the State House in Nashville is scheduled to get underway Tuesday for legislators, with the voucher legislation being a key piece of the agenda. This will likely extend into the week.
