Tennessee Tech Blanks Cumberland 65-0

Tennessee Tech dominated Cumberland in every aspect, shutting out the Phoenix 65-0 at Tucker Stadium on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles racked up 570 total yards while limiting Cumberland to just 94. Tech averaged nearly 10 yards per play and scored on five of six red zone trips. Cumberland managed only one of 14 third-down conversions and never threatened to score.

Quarterback Kekoa Visperas led the way, completing 17 of 26 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns. Backup Jace Wilson was perfect on two attempts for 34 yards. Tech spread the ball to 11 different receivers, with Noah Robinson leading the way with 58 yards.

The rushing attack was equally impressive, grinding out 286 yards on 31 carries. Maurice Sims paced the ground game with 92 yards, including a 78-yard touchdown run. Q’Daryius Jennings added 80 yards and two scores.

Tech jumped out early with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Visperas to Torin Baker. After Cumberland stalled in plus territory, Quincy Quinn punched in a 4-yard touchdown run. Visperas capped the first quarter with an 11-yard scoring strike to Aiden Littles for a 21-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles exploded for 24 second-quarter points. Jennings scored on a 19-yard run, Visperas hit Tre’ Holloway for a 3-yard touchdown, then Holloway returned a punt 53 yards for another score. Tech added a 42-yard field goal to take a 45-0 halftime lead.

Tech cruised in the second half, adding 20 more points to reach the final margin.

Cumberland returns home next Saturday to face Reinhardt.
