The City of Lebanon will receive a new $350,000 grant from the State of Tennessee’s Local Parks & Recreation Fund (LPRF). The matching grant, secured with the support of the Lebanon City Council, will be used to replace a 30-year-old wading pool at Don Fox Park with a new modern splash pad that will be ADA-accessible and will be open longer during the summer months.
“The State of Tennessee’s LPRF awarding Lebanon $350,000 is a big win for community, specifically for Don Fox Park. The Don Fox Park Wading Pool has been fun for families and a blessing to our community for 30 years. I appreciate the Lebanon City Council for encouraging us to apply for the matching grant to modernize the area for a splash pad and provide access for everyone,” Mayor Rick Bell said.
The project must go through the design phase before construction can begin. According to the Jimmy Floyd Family Center Director Alex Major, the process could take up to two years to complete.
One of the significant factors in switching to a splash pad is that it doesn’t require a lifeguard and can be open longer during the summer months. According to Mayor Bell, it is only open nine weeks from Memorial Day until school starts back. The plan is to keep the splash pad open from May 1 to October 1.
Ward 1 Councilor Joey Carmack is excited about the upgrades at Don Fox Park. “I have been a big supporter of Don Fox Park since elected to office, and I appreciate Mayor Rick Bell and my fellow councilors for supporting improving the park,” Carmack said. “The splash pad will offer fun for everyone visiting the park. Specifically, thank you to State Representative Clark Boyd for working on getting the grant funding to make this project a reality.”
The Jimmy Floyd Family Center staff oversees the current wading pool, the future splash pad, and the city-owned indoor and outdoor pools.
