College Baseball:

         Vanderbilt Commodores – Win 2-0, Win 4-1

Vanderbilt drew a tough matchup in the Super Regionals against ECU. However, the Pirates were no match for the one-two punch of Rocker and Leiter. The Commodores only allowed 3 hits in the first matchup and won 2-0. In the second contest, ECU managed to push across a run but it was late in the 6th inning. Neither team scored until the 5th inning, but the Vandy Boys made sure to put up enough to win the game as they scored 4. They won the second game 4-1 and punched their ticket to Omaha.

         Tennessee Volunteers – Win 4-2, Win 15-6

The Tennessee Volunteers brought their bats with them to the Super Regional. This was the first time in school history the Vols hosted their Super Regional and they took on LSU. Before this series, the Vols were 3-0 against the Tigers. In the first matchup, the game was delayed due to rain. The Vols seemed to overcome the delay better than LSU as they had a huge 3 run sixth inning to help them clinch the win. Then in Sunday’s competition, the Vols exploded for 15 runs. Tennessee scored a quick 2 runs and never looked back. They held on to the lead the whole game, completing the sweep and clinching their spot to Omaha.

Nashville Sounds: Win 14-1, Loss 8-1, Loss 7-4

The Nashville Sounds ended up splitting their series against the Indianapolis Indians 3-3 over the weekend. On Friday night, the Sounds offense showed up in full force as they put up 14 runs on the board. The rest of the weekend was a major struggle though as they were held to 1 run on Saturday night and 4 runs on Sunday afternoon. The biggest difference in the last three games was that in the win Nashville held the Indians off the scoreboard in the first inning, in the two losses Nashville let up 2 runs or more in the top half of the first inning in both games.

Atlanta Braves: Loss 4-3, Loss 4-2, Win 6-4

Atlanta was looking to get back on track this weekend following a rough couple of outings against the Phillies. They took on the Marlins and dropped the first two but ended up with a win in the final matchup of the series. To make matters worse in Saturday’s loss the Braves were beaten by pitcher Zach Thompson, who earned his first career victory in the matchup. It wasn’t all bad though as Drew Smyly earned the victory for the Braves on his birthday on Sunday.

Cincinnati Reds: Win 11-5, Win 10-3, Win 6-2

The Cincinnati Reds exploded for 27 runs over the weekend and a series over the Colorado Rockies. The Reds smacked 5 home runs in the first 5 innings of the game in their 11-5 routing on Friday night. On Saturday, the Reds pushed across double-digit runs again in the contest as they won 10-3. On Sunday, the Reds moved back above .500 as they won again 6-2.
