Nashville Predators: Loss 3-2 OT
The series between the Nashville Predators and Carolina Hurricanes continued last night, tied at 2-2. With only 2 more games guaranteed the Predators would really like to get the win on the road and have a chance to close the series out later this week.
The Predators got the scoring started in this one, as Roman Josi put a puck on the net. At first glance, it looked to be Roman Josi’s goal but upon further review, it was determined that Yakov Trenin deflected it into the net. Either way, the Preds led 1-0. Later in the period, the Hurricanes would score on the power play after a questionable penalty issued to Nashville. The first period would stay tied until the buzzer and the teams headed into the locker room.
In the second period, Yakov Trenin scored his second goal of the night off a beautiful pass from Colton Sissons! The Predators retook the lead 2-1. Midway through the second period, it seemed the Hurricanes tied the game when they deflected the puck into the goal. However, Coach John Hynes of the Predators and his staff decided they wanted the refs to take a closer look at the goal. Nashville used their first coaching challenge of the season and won. It was ruled that Juuse Saros was interfered with and the goal was no good. It was another controversial call. It kept the Predators on top though and the second period ended with the score 2-1.
In the third period, it didn’t take long for the Hurricanes to tie the game. Necas scored his second goal of the night as he took the puck coast-to-coast speeding by defenders and wrapped the puck around the back of the goal and in on the other side. The game was back at even 2-2. Neither team backed down or made an unrecoverable error. The third period came to a close still tied 2-2 and the Predators and Hurricanes were headed for overtime.
When the puck dropped in overtime history was made. Never before in the NHL has a playoff series seen multiple double-overtime games, followed by a third overtime game. The overtime period lasted only about 2 minutes as Jordan Staal of the Hurricanes scored the game-winning goal. The Hurricanes took the series lead 3-2 and both teams return to Bridgestone in what could be the final game of the series.
Nashville Sounds: Win 8-2
The Nashville Sounds started a new series on the road last night against the Columbus Clippers. The Sounds came in riding a complete 6-game sweep of the Stripers and looked to continue their success.
The Sounds scored first in the third inning when Dustin Peterson doubled to left field and drove in 2 runs. Then Zach Green hit a 2-run home run and the Sounds were up 4-0. Then later in the game, Hernan Perez hit a solo home run and the Sounds increased their lead to 5-0. In the top of the seventh Nashville plated 2 more runs before the Clippers would score. Columbus scored 2 runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to halt being shut out. In the top of the ninth Nashville added one more run and held on for the win 8-2.
The Nashville Sounds have won 7 in a row!
Atlanta Braves: Win 3-1
The Atlanta Braves were on the road against the Boston Red Sox in a short 2-game series. The Red Sox took an early 1-0 lead, but in the third inning, the Braves would jump ahead after an RBI double from Ozuna, and a SAC from Albies. The Braves led 2-0 until the sixth inning when Atlanta tacked on a run with an Acuña Jr. RBI double. Pablo Sandoval, in his first return to Boston, had three hits on the night which helped propel the Braves to a 3-1 victory. Charlie Morton was your winning pitcher.
Cincinnati Reds: Win 2-1
The Cincinnati Reds were in the nation’s capital taking on the Nationals in D.C. This kicked off a 3-game series against the Nats. The lineup had a minor change in it as Eugenio Suarez was placed in the leadoff spot for the Reds. It was a minor change but had a huge result. The Reds scored first in the third inning when Farmer hit a solo home run. Then in the sixth inning, Suarez in his first career game as a leadoff man, hit a solo home run as well and the Reds led 2-0. The Nationals did not roll over and quit though. They scored a run in the bottom of the ninth off a Bell home run, and things were tight. Cincinnati held on to the win though 2-1.
