Peggie “Jeanie” Smith Lloyd, a beloved member of our community, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, surrounded by her loved ones.
Peggie was born to Robert J. Lloyd and Agnes Byrd Lloyd on November 21, 1949, in Greenville, Tennessee.
Nothing could hold a candle to the bright light that Peggie shined upon her friends, family, and loved ones. She will be deeply missed.
Peggy, or “Jeanie” as many called her, was preceded in death by her mother and father, Robert J. Lloyd and Anges Bryd, and her stepfather, Richard Byrd.
She is survived by her brother, Jerry Byrd (Robin); her daughter, Shirley Hamblin (Tim); her grandchildren, Andrew, Landon, Sean, Callie, Levis, and Emily; and a cherished family friend, Cheryl Stewart;
Throughout her life, Peggy faced many adversities including being born without the ability to hear, yet she was an incredible advocate for the deaf community. Her resilience and unwavering passion for sharing love and compassion with others, especially those in the deaf community, were truly inspiring.
In addition, Peggy courageously fought and defeated breast cancer and pancreatic cancer over 25 years. Peggy had a deep love for sewing, crocheting, and various other crafts that allowed her to express her creativity. Of all her hobbies, Peggy found her greatest inspiration in her love for her family.
She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, finding immense joy in their company. For example, one of her cherished pastimes was making cookies with her grandson, Landon, creating lifelong memories and bonding over their shared love for baking. Her love for her family was a source of warmth and joy that brought her happiness like nothing else.
Peggy was a shining star to her friends, family, and all those whose lives she touched. Her warmth will continue to shine in the memories of everyone who knew her.
