Mike was born in Rockwood, TN on September 7, 1945, to Braxton and Lyda Grace Matheny.
He graduated from Livingston Academy in 1963 where he played football and basketball. Mike attended MTSU on a football scholarship. He excelled at football as he did at everything. Mike then went onto pharmacy school at The University of TN Memphis, graduating in 1972. He returned to his hometown of Livingston to work for Holt & Norris Drugs. On February 29, 1988, Mike began his journey of sobriety. He remained sober for 36 years. He took his sobriety very seriously and felt a calling in life to help others in AA.
Mike loved Jesus, Judy, his family, football, and people with all his heart. We know he was so excited to see Jesus. This world will not be near as bright without him. He had the best stories and loved to laugh. He left people better than he found them. There are only a few special people which leave your heart permanently changed and stamped by their love and care and that was Mike.
