Kyler Matthew Gatica, beloved son and friend, age 16, went to be with his heavenly father on October 12, 2024.
Kyler was a vibrant, playful soul who touched many lives during his short time here on earth—passing much too soon, leaving a void in the hearts of all who knew him.
Kyler was preceded in death by his grandfather, Rodger Dale Dorris, and his great-grandparents, Roger and Gloria Dorris, Selma Thompson.
He is survived by his mother and father, Matt And Stephaine Gatica; his grandparents, Sheryl Sawyer, Cindy And Tony Gatica; his aunts and uncles, Aaron (Amy) Dorris, Anthony Gatica, Adam (Ashlea) Gatica, and Gabby (Todd) Countrey; his cousins Trevor Dorris and Devin Wells; and his long time best friends Jackson Sanders and Isabella Jock.
Kyler was a dedicated Mount Juliet High School student, actively participating in the boys’ volleyball team. His passion for sports, particularly his unwavering support for the Golden State Warriors Basketball Team and his love for playing volleyball, defined much of his life. A true sneaker aficionado, Kyler’s collection of basketball shoes was a testament to his passion for the game and his sense of style.
In addition to his sporting pursuits, Kyler cherished spending time with his best friend, Jackson. Kyler had many interests, including a love for the beach, the excitement of amusement parks, and the thrill of exploring haunted houses. His friends and family also knew he was a huge fan of scary movies.
Kyler’s vibrant spirit and boundless energy left an indelible mark on all those around him, and his absence will be profoundly felt. He will be dearly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched, and shine on as he looks down on not only his friends, and family, but also the beloved members of the volleyball team, whom he adored.
Services for Kyler will be held at Sellars Funeral Home at Mount Juliet on Monday, October 21, at noon in the chapel. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 21, with public visitation from 12 pm until 6 pm. The family asks that you wear your favorite sports apparel, basketball or tennis shoes, to the visitation and funeral service. https://www.sellarsfh.com
Pallbearers for Kyler’s service on Monday will be as follows: Austin Childress, Blake Childress, Trevor Dorris, Devin Wells, Dustin Cunningham, and Isabella Jock. Jackson Sanders and the Mount Juliet High School Volleyball team will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family asks that donations be made to the Mount Juliet High School Volleyball Team or be made out to the funeral home towards Kyler’s funeral expenses.
