Kathryn “Kay” Elaine Davis (84), of Lebanon, TN and Wailuku, Maui, passed away at home on August 12, 2022, surrounded by family.

Born Kathryn Prothman on March 18, 1938 in Kansas City, MO, she graduated from the Paseo High School in 1956 and attended the University of Kansas.

She married John Davis in 1961, and they remained together until John’s passing in 2011. During this time, they had three children, many adventures, and traveled and lived all over the United States.

Kathryn is pre-deceased by her mother, Helen Prothman, brothers Edward and William Prothman, brother-in-law Robert Davis, husband of 50 years John Davis, and her beloved Panache.

She is survived by her children: Kendall D. Born (Michael) of Lebanon, TN; Paul A. Davis (Anthony Peiffer) of Wailuku, HI; Kourtney D. Rabinowitz (Erik) of Boone, NC; grandchildren Kiara Harper (David) of Fairview, TN; Hannah Rabinowitz and Rosalyn Rabinowitz of Boone, NC; and great-granddaughter Eloise Harper of Fairview, TN. She is also survived by brother-in-law Richard Davis of Arvada, CO, and sister-in-law Margaret Davis (Robert) of Overland Park, KS.

Kay was extremely active in the church, especially St. Elizabeth Seton in Naperville, where she lived for thirty years, acting as Eucharistic Minister and organizer of an army of funeral luncheon volunteers.

She was a well-known dog lover, and every dog in the neighborhood knew where to stop for treats. Dog parents resisted at their peril. Involved together and separately in a multitude of community organizations, clubs and sports, Kay and John entertained regularly, often having multiple versions of the same party to accommodate their many friends.

Kay was above all else committed to family, often traveling to other states, or even countries, to cheer on family members. Her commitment to packing up and moving house, kids and pets, to keep the family together through John’s every promotion and transfer, was heroic. She was an adoptive Mom to her children’s friends, and even adult neighbors, wherever she went.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Elizabeth Seton, 87th and Lisson Rd in Naperville, IL, on Saturday, the 22nd of October, 2022 at 10:00 AM, preceded by a short visitation in the narthex at 9:00 AM. The interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish should make a donation in Kathryn’s name to their local Humane Society; The Lebanon Senior Center at 670 Coles Ferry Pike, Lebanon, TN 37087; or The Holy Ghost Mission, Kula Catholic Community, 9177 Kula Hwy, Kula, HI 96790.
