Mr. Joseph R. Puryear of Lebanon, Tennessee passed away on Friday, September 9, 2022, he was 71 years old.
Preceded in death by parents: John and Josie Puryear; brother, John Richard Puryear; maternal grandparents, Irby & Inez Thorne and paternal, Joseph Richard & Mary Lou Puryear.
He is survived by children, Shelly (Givens) Phillips, Joe Puryear, and Lucas (Kristin) Puryear; brothers, Don Puryear and Kip (Patty) Puryear; sister, Wanda Huffines; and grandchildren, Ayden, Eli, Sarah, Harper, Max, and Rosie.
Mr. Puryear was a 1969 graduate of Lebanon High School. A lover of history, he graduated from MTSU with a bachelor’s in history and taught history at Mt. Juliet High School for several years.
In addition to history, he loved being outdoors enjoying the calmness and peace it provided. He loved to laugh, listen to classical and country music and dance. He was involved in many Civil War reenactments. He retired from Nissan in 2007.
He had a strong work ethic that he passed on to his children and grandchildren. A devoted father and grandfather, he always put his family first. He will be dearly missed.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Mel and all other caregivers who had a part in his care.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at Partlow Funeral Chapel (Partee House, 233 West Main St., Lebanon) from 2 p.m.- 5 p.m. There will be a private family service on Monday, September 12, 2022.
