John C. Hembree was born October 31, 1942 in LaPorte, Indiana to John Alfred Hembree and Ena Myrtle Thompson. A vivacious man who loved a full life. John never met a stranger and had a gift for gab. He was the center of attention wherever he was.

He was known for going to restaurants at Christmas time and singing Christmas carols, going table to table. Everywhere he was, John would endear himself to those around him. Known as “the 2-dollar bill man”, John was born a salesman, an auctioneer, a volunteer firefighter and a devout Christian known for his charity to others.

A diehard Tennessee football fan, a Shriner, a loyal member to the Masonic Lodge and once a member of Indiana University’s Marching 100.

John is survived by his loving partner Elaine Hornyack, sons John Charles Hembree, Jr, Joseph (Chelsie) Hembree and Robert “DeWayne” (Jan) Gross, sister Jeanne Emerick and grandchildren Madison Hembree, Chance Gross, Austin Gross, Dillon Gross and Peighton Gross and his beloved dog Bandit. He was blessed with six great grandchildren and loved his many nieces and nephews.

John will be deeply missed but his family knows he will be welcomed into Heaven and into the arms of his most cherished late wife, Imogene. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks for donations to be made to St. Croix Hospice in Jefferson, Indiana.
