Mr. Jimmy Wayne Lannom, age 75 of Lebanon, passed away January 16, 2025 at American House in Murfreesboro. Jimmy was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids, IA, where he was active in sports as a baseball player and wrestler.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1971 with the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Lannom was a recipient of the Bronze Star. Jimmy loved all things outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and enjoyed camping and frog gigging.
He was a “fixer-upper” and was happy tinkering on cars and figuring out how things worked. He was skilled at “fixing” things. He was of the Church of Christ faith. Jimmy was one of those guys that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.
Early in his working career, he was an employee of what was then TRW Ross Gear. He was a long-time member of IBEW Union Nashville Local 429 and worked as an apprentice with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Nashville as a journeyman wireman before his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond L. Lannom; mother and bonus dad, Mildred and John Pruitte; sister, Linda Bradley; brother-in-law, Allen C. Smith; mother of his son, Gloria Young.
Survivors include: son, Luis (Verta) Young of Colorado Springs, CO; grandson, Victor Young of Colorado Springs; two sisters: Darlene Smith of Lebanon, TN, Becky (Rich) Moore of Olin, IA; two brothers: Johnny (Rhonda) Pruitte of Prospect, TN, Steve Lannom of Anamosa, IA; bonus mom, JoAnn Lannom of Springville, IA; bonus sons: Thomas (Lori) Young and David (Denise) Young of Colorado; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Private viewing for the family only will be at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home prior to departure for gravesite.
Family and friends will assemble for graveside services Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the Wilson County Memorial Gardens for graveside services with military honors with Gary E. Miller officiating. Pallbearers: William Harris, Bobby Kirk, Mark Lannom, Dayton Layne, Johnny Pruitte, Robert Smith.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the devoted individuals at American House Murfreesboro and Gentiva Hospice of Murfreesboro for their love and care of Jimmy. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or your favorite charity.
