Jimmy Hayden, age 87, of Mt. Juliet TN, passed away at 1:45 am on February 6, 2025 at Hartsville Convalescent Center. The Memorial Service is 2 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2025 in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN. Visitation is from 1 p.m. until the service at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Jimmy Edgar Hayden was born on April 2, 1937 to Sylvia Alexander Hayden and Shirley Hayden. Jimmy loved to fish, hunt, write songs, and play guitar. He had copyrights on three of his songs and as an inventor, had one patent. He left home when he was 14 to go to Chicago to drive trucks. At 19, he went into the U.S. Army for 2 years. After his service, he went back into trucking.
Jimmy joined the Local Teamsters Union 480 and was even at one time a body guard for the president of the Teamsters. He carried a pistol ever since that time. Jimmy retired from Roadway Express in 1996 and started working with family construction building and trimming houses.
Jimmy raised 5 of his sister’s children, with a smile on his face, and raised Kelly Heaton from the age of 5. He married Ethelle Heaton 48 years ago on July 19, 1976. Jimmy had a lifetime passport. He was a pilot and good at it. He went flying after church for many years. He was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church for over 17 years.
Jimmy is survived by wife Ethelle Ann Hayden, step-son Kelly Heaton, wife Lisa Heaton, and their son Zack Heaton, step-daughter Terry L. Jones, grandchildren who called him “Poppa”, Clint J. Jones, Daniel Jones, and Matt Jones, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved. He is preceded in death by his parents, mother Sylvia and father Shirley Hayden, and 10 brothers and sisters, making him the last of the family of 11.
